The Another Roadmap Africa Cluster consists of a group of scholars and practitioners of artistic and cultural education who are working in both formal and informal contexts within the African continent. Together they are collaborating to pursue a joint programme of research into arts educational practices in their respective localities within Africa. Their research is critically informed and grounded in historical analysis, particularly with respect to Africa’s colonial heritage. The group’s aim is to build a shared knowledge base and a structure of mutual learning that will benefit African practitioners and contribute to advances in thinking and practice worldwide.
The Another Roadmap Africa Cluster operates under the aegis of the Another Roadmap School, an initiative launched by the Another Roadmap Network in 2014. The Network aims to provide open spaces for trans-regional exchange and learning in arts education as an engaged practice committed to social change. Over the course of a 3-year pilot phase (2015-2018), the participating working groups of the Another Roadmap School, are carrying out research and practice projects, contributing to a trans-regional arts education ‘glossary’ and sharing their results in the form of ‘learning units’, publications and a travelling exhibition.

Nzewi (Nigeria/USA), Chike Obeagu (Nigeria), Emeka Ogboh (Nigeria), WAZA Arts Centre (Democratic Republic of Congo), Wits School of Art (South Africa), WYart Foundation (Nigeria).
